Biomass Boilers

Wood Pellet, Wood Chip and Log Boilers

Biomass boilers are unusually efficient and burn CO2 neutral, a perfect addition to any home; a Solid fuel for the 21st Century.

Wood is stored solar energy - a sustainable fuel source right on our doorstep that can be collected from where it falls or managed and grown sustainably.

In contrast to fossil fuels, when wood fuel burns it produces virtually no sulphur emissions and is CO2 neutral.  The CO2 released into the atmosphere when the wood is combusted is only the CO2 that would have returned to the atmosphere when the tree died and decomposed.  By burning the wood we are only releasing that's already in the wood, completing the natural carbon cycle.

Burning logs, wood pellets, wood chips and grain makes a positive contribution towards combating the greenhouse effect.  Today's wood burning boilers and stoves cannot be compared to the traditional solid fuel or wood fuelled appliances of the past.  The biomass heating systems are super efficient and can be compared to high efficiency oil condensing boilers.

Once the biomass heating system is switched on everything runs automatically so no user intervention is needed.  On some models even the cleaning of the heat exchanger and ash removal is fully automated.

HeatNet supply an excellent range of biomass boilers and stoves imported from Europe which lead the way in biomass heating technology

What are wood pellets?

Wood pellets are manufactured from products which are a by-product of the wood processing industries.  The materials used to produce wood pellets are ground wood chips and sawdust.  No chemical additives are required to manufacture wood pellets due to the natural lignin of the wood itself acting as a binder.

Premium grade pellets are produced in the UK under a voluntary code of practice.  Other countries have their own standards for the production of wood pellets, sometimes compulsory.

Due to the low moisture content of premium wood pellets (~10%), wood pellets have a high energy content, similar to high quality coal.  Wood pellets can be used in automatic clean-burning heating appliances as they are manufactured to a consistent size which also means that the boiler response time is fast and the technology is controllable without increasing the load on the environment.
